Statement of Faith
Below you will find our statement of faith. We endeavor to believe and preach only what the Word of God says: nothing added or taken away. We believe that God's Word is the final word.
While we hold the following as true, each listing is but a short answer to a question about some very big and wonderful ideas. If you have any questions regarding specific statements or beliefs, please feel free to send us an email to info@tnc.sc or a DM on Facebook or Instagram.
Our Statement of Faith
The Bible is the inspired, spoken Word of God. It's always relevant, never-changing, and forever true. (2 Timothy 3:16, Isaiah 40:8, Psalm 119:160)
God is one Being, but He reveals Himself in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)
We are created beings, made in God's likeness and image. (Genesis 1:27)
All of humans have sinned and rebelled against God, beginning with Adam's disobedience. The penalty for Sin—committing an offense against God's Word—is always death. Sin is what separates us from God's holy presence. (Romans 5:12,18; 6:23)
Jesus Christ, as a member of the Trinity, became human, laying aside His rights of being God. He became a humble man, and He walked the earth to reveal God as a Father, not just a deity. Then Jesus died "a criminal's death on the cross." God raised Jesus from the dead, and now Jesus sits on the right hand of the Father, interceding for those who follow Him. (Philippians 2:6-11, Ephesians 1:19)
Salvation is a gift of God for us, made available to all through faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation includes the complete forgiveness of our sins. You can only be saved by believing in Jesus as the Son of God who died and was raised from the dead. This is not you saving yourself, but you receiving the salvation that Jesus makes available to you. One of the fruits of salvation is eternal life. By believing in Jesus, you become a child of God. (Acts 2:21, Acts 4:12, Romans 5:18, Rom. 10:13, 1 Timothy 2:3-4, Titus 2:11, 2 Peter 3:9, Colossians 2:13-14, 1 Peter 2:24, John 3:1-21, Romans 10:9-10, John 1:12)
Water baptism is a commandment from Jesus. A believer is baptized when they are immersed in water. It is an expression of our transformation in New Birth. (Matthew 28:19)
All believers receive the Holy Spirit, the third member of the Trinity, at the New Birth. He lives inside of us, ready to help us, to teach us, to show us, and to remind us of what Jesus has taught. (John 15:26; 16:26, 5-14; Romans 8:26)
All believers can be baptized with the Holy Spirit, sometimes described as "receive the promise of the Father", or "to be baptized in the Holy Spirit". At this "baptism", distinct from water baptism, a believer can expect to receive power to be Christ's witnesses to the world. This power is accompanied with a heavenly prayer language from God—a resource for readiness in perfect prayer and praise. This gift is available to all who believe that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior. We do not believe that a person is any less a Christian, saved, holy, or valuable without this baptism. (Acts 1:4-5, 8; 2:1-4; Joel 2:28-32, 38; Acts 4:31; 6:3; 8:14-17; 9:17; 10:44-46; 11:15; 13:52; 15:7-9; 19:1-7; 1 Corinthians 14:15; 14:2-4; Ephesians 6:18; Jude 1:20)
We believe in sanctification, which is living a life of holiness. Come as you are—but the Word of God instigates change! (Titus 2:11-12)
Jesus’s beating and death paid the price not just for our spiritual well being, but also our physical. Healing is the privilege of every member of the Church today provided through Jesus’ death on the Cross. (James 5:13-15; 1 Peter 2:24; Mark 16:17-18)
Marriage is the exclusive union between one man and one woman. (Genesis 1:28, Gen. 5:2, Matthew 19:4, Mark 10:6)
Divorce and remarriage are not detrimental to a person's Christian walk. There are circumstances that we believe that divorce is the best choice a person can make—we are called to live in peace with one another. We do not see any difference between a divorced person and a not divorced.
Jesus is returning! (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17)
